A Parisian philosophy professor (Isabelle Huppert) living a
comfortable middle class existence only comes partially unraveled when a
succession of curveballs are thrown her way, including her husband moving in
with a younger woman, her needy mother’s health gradually deteriorating, and
her publisher deciding her book will not be renewed. Things to Come is pompous intellectual French filmmaking made
salient by Huppert’s profound presence.
