A has-been writer (Toni Servillo) living the fast life in Rome for many years reaches his 65th birthday and begans to take stock in himself and reexamine all the beauty and wonder that lies around him. Paolo Sorrentino's tribute to
La Dolce Vita and the city of the seven hills borders a little too close to Fellini's classic but is strangely engrossing with several memorable sequences, great location shooting, and a fine performance from Servillo.
