As the Earth's governments wage a losing battle against mechanized alien life forms, a military officer (Tom Cruise) realizes he has the ability to see the future and relive the present. Now he must align himself with the field commander (Emily Blunt) and convince her of his supernormal capabilities. Doug Liman's Edge of Tomorrow is excellent popcorn fare, with Cruise and Blunt further demonstrating their appeal, that is not tarnished by a loud, muddled, and largely incomprehensible ending. Watching this entertaining, tacky extravaganza, my mind went to the dreadful Pacific Rim, a film which shares surface similarities, the comparison of the two showing the two different directions such material can take.
